WHY (short version): It’s racist.
**************************************************************
WHY (long version):
By now you have probably heard about “The Last Airbender” film, based on the Nickelodeon cartoon “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. The cartoon is based on Asian and Inuit cultures and t here
are of course Asian and Inuit characters.
Paramount’s official casting call for the heroic characters solicited applicants who were “ Caucasian
or any other ethnicity.” This led to the four principal ac
tors being Caucasian.
However, the original Caucasian actor for the film’s main antagonist dropped out due to “scheduling” – and was replaced by Dev Patel, a South Asian actor.
Buy Ampicillin For the inconsequential background actors, Paramount’s casting call requested “Near Eastern, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern, Asian, Mediterranean, and Latino (Racebending.com).”
The casting of this film is RACIST.
There are tons of talented actors of color working in the industry, yet Paramount has specifically chosen to favor and cast white actors as the leads even if these characters are not
white.
“The Last Airbender”, “Dragonball”, “Prince of Persia”, “21″, “Genghis Khan”, these are just some recent movies that have casted white actors in Asian roles (yes, Mickey Rourke as Genghis Khan). Yellowface, stereotyping, and all sorts of discrimination against Asians and Asian Americans have been happening for decades in Hollywood and it needs to end NOW.
Blackface is wrong.
And so is yellowface. Levitra 10 mg precio All actors of color deserve the opportunity to be considered in roles just as much
as white actors do.
